Deputy Chief of Staff
The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is seeking a Physician for a temporary detail (not-to-exceed 120 days) to the Deputy Chief of Staff position. This role is open exclusively to current Veterans Health Administration employees who are physicians in a surgical specialty. The incumbent will balance administrative leadership with clinical duties, contributing to process improvement and resource management within the medical center.
Practice Info
- Allocation will be 40% administrative and 60% clinical in the discipline of the incumbent's board certification.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead physician during the absence of the Chief of Staff
- Work with clinical service chiefs and performance measure champions to improve processes to meet performance measure goals and improve utilization management
- Review requests for contracts and help determine the best way to obtain required resources
- Coordinate transfers into and out of the Robert J. Dole VAMC with service chiefs, residents, transfer coordinators, and other facilities as needed
- Supervise a variety of staff aligned under the Chief of Staff Office
- Serve on a broad spectrum of medical center committees, task forces, etc.

- Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Requirements
- Must be a current employee of the Veterans Health Administration
- Must be a physician in a surgical specialty
- U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
- Must be proficient in written and spoken English
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine from a VA-approved school
- Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
- Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification
- Ability to perform clinical duties in surgical specialty
- Preferred Experience: Board Certified in Surgical Specialty
- Preferred Experience: VA management experience to include physicians
