Director of Parks & Facilities

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0"><span style="font-family: Verdana">The City of Hutchinson, Kansas (population 40,000) is currently seeking qualified applicants for its Director of Parks and Facilities position. This department head position reports directly to the City Manager and is a key member of the leadership team charged with developing policy and solving complex problems related to City operations. </span></p><p><span style="font-family: Verdana">The Parks and Facilities Department has 45 regular employees, a 5.78M operating budget and 1.8M CIP Budget. Major facilities and functional areas of operation include:  Park Operations, Horticulture & Forestry, Carey Park Golf Course, Municipal Airport, Zoo, Fun Valley Activity Center, Sports Arena and Eastside Cemetery.     This position assumes overall responsibility for all functional areas of the department and provides leadership in establishing general direction, goals, priorities and promoting excellent customer service.</span></p><div><span style="font-family: Verdana">This position is responsible for:</span></div><ul> <li><span style="font-family: Verdana">Overseeing and coordinating short and long range planning efforts for parks, facilities and infrastructure including land acquisition, and concept plans for development. Oversees the selection and performance external contractors services needed by the department;</span></li> <li><span style="font-family: Verdana">Establishing appropriate service and staffing levels, monitoring and evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures, and allocating resources accordingly; and</span></li> <li><span style="font-family: Verdana">Acting as a liaison to other department heads, City advisory boards, elected officials, outside agencies, business and community representatives, and other organizations regarding parks and recreation related issues.</span></li></ul><div><span style="font-family: Verdana">Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, parks and recreation administration, business administration or a related field. Qualified applicants should possess a minimum of seven (7) years work management/ leadership experience in a large public park, recreation and facilities program. The successful candidate must also possess strong analytical ability, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and have the proven ability <i>to </i>work effectively with elected and appointed officials, department directors, private consultants and contractors, business organizations, and the general public. </span></div><div><span style="font-family: Verdana"> </span></div><span style="font-family: Verdana">The successful candidate must also reside within Reno County within 12 months of appointment to the position.</span>
