Position Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating dozers, excavators, and related heavy machinery in support of wildfire response, forestry management, land clearing, grading, trenching, and municipal infrastructure projects throughout Northern California. This role requires strong technical skill, safety awareness, and readiness for rapid deployment in emergency response environments.
Core Responsibilities
Operate dozers, excavators, and related heavy equipment in accordance with project specifications and safety standards. Perform grading, trenching, land clearing, fire line construction, and site preparation activities. Conduct daily 360-degree equipment inspections and complete required operator logs. Identify and report mechanical issues promptly to the Superintendent or Field Supervisor. Maintain situational awareness and adhere to Cal Fire, OSHA, and Cal/OSHA safety protocols. Support wildfire response operations, including mop-up and emergency mobilization assignments. Work collaboratively with transport drivers, supervisors, and project teams to meet production goals.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 3–5 years experience operating heavy construction equipment. Demonstrated proficiency with dozers and excavators; forestry or wildfire experience preferred. Ability to read grade stakes, plans, and basic site layouts. Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required. Current or ability to obtain Cal Fire Fireline Safety and OSHA certifications. Ability to pass pre-employment screening including drug and alcohol testing. Safely perform excavation and trenching operations with working knowledge of underground utility protection, trench safety systems, shoring requirements, and jobsite hazard mitigation protocols.
Work Environment & Expectations
This position requires work in rugged outdoor environments, including wildfire zones, forestry terrain, and active construction sites. Operators must be prepared for long hours, extended deployments, variable weather conditions, and on-call emergency response assignments across Northern California.

Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour
